1864 - the first horse-drawn tram

Paardentramremise Scheveningen 1900

On March 21, 1864, the Dutch Tramway Company was founded, operating eight round trips daily between Scheveningen and Lange Vijverberg with 10 horse-drawn trams in a large ring line. The area between The Hague and Scheveningen was largely undeveloped, so passengers did not get off along the way. Spectacularly, people could also sit on top!
