Only one horse to pull the tram wagon

Paardentram Javastraat Frederikstraat

Hollands Spoor and Rhijnspoor stations (later Staatsspoor and today Central Station) were given a tram connection to the inner city. Carriage builders had meanwhile succeeded in making a lighter model, for which one horse as traction force was sufficient. By now there were 50 trams in operation, which allowed increasingly comfortable travel. People could still even sit on top!
