Regio Vrij Replaces the Regio Monthly Pass

Dear traveler, the Netherlands is transitioning from the ov-chipkaart to OVpay. This means checking in and out using the new OV-pass or your debit card. 

As a result, online sales of the OV-chipkaart Regio Monthly Pass will end on July 1, 2026. Regio Vrij is the OVpay successor. 

When to choose this subscription?

This season ticket is a good option if you:

  • Often travel in The Hague, Rotterdam, Zoetermeer and Leiden region by public transport.
  • Do not want to worry about travel costs, this season ticket has a fixed price.
  • Regularly travel a fixed route, for example between work and home.

One-month or one-year subscription?

This subscription is available as monthly and annual subscriptions.

  • With a monthly subscription, you are not stuck with a long-term subscription: after activation, the subscription is valid for one month.
  • With an annual subscription, you travel for 12 months for the price of 10 months. This makes an annual subscription the cheaper choice.
  • The annual season ticket is only available in our HTM Service shops.

Good to know

The Regio abonnement allows unlimited tram, bus and metro travel with carriers in the region, such as HTM, RET and EBS.

  • After purchase, activate the season ticket on your personal OV-chipkaart at a loading machine. From that moment your subscription is active.
  • This subscription ends automatically after a month or a year (depending on the subscription).
  • The cost of this subscription depends on the star value and validity period. Check the rates here.
  • Choose your travel area based on the zones. In this, you start at the centre zone (the centre of your travel area) and calculate how many zones you need to travel through. More information.
  • The larger the area around the centre zone, the higher the star value.

How do I use a Regio abonnement?

Determine the travel area

  • The Regio abonnement has a centre zone and a star value. These factors determine the area in which you can travel with this subscription.
  • Find the zones you want to travel in on the zone map, or look at the line network map. This shows the zone boundaries at a stop with a grey dotted line and the zone number.

Determine the centre zone and star value

  • Choose one zone (star value 1) or multiple zones (centre zone + one or more adjacent zones).
  • The centre zone is the centre of the travel area.
  • The number of stars indicates how many zones you can travel freely from the centre zone to all To. The higher the star value, the larger the area.
  • How many zones do you need to make all your journeys from the centre zone? The number of zones you need is the number of stars on the subscription.
Where do I buy a region annual pass?

This is only possible at one of the HTM Service Shops.

Cancel Regio Maand- of Jaarabonnement

Do you want to cancel a Regio Maand- of Jaarabonnement? Go to an HTM Service Shop to do so.

  • A Regio Maandabonnement can be cancelled free of charge up to the second day after the start date of the subscription.
  • A Regio Jaarabonnement can also be cancelled at other times. The amount of the unused months will be refunded, except for the last 2 months as these are given as a gift with the subscription.

The administrative costs for stopping or terminating the contract are €5.
